Triptych
Definition
Triptych - a triptych is a picture in 3 parts.
Task
Create a triptych using a theme of your choice.
Step 1: Shooting
Choose a theme (ex. line, landscape, zippers). Take a minimum of 24 photos of the theme using a variety of camera angles and shots. Apply your knowledge of shallow and wide depth of field and make sure that all of the shots are correctly exposed.
Camera settings:
- Only use the camera’s manual or Aperture priority setting ("M" or "A" or "Av")
Step 2: Editing
- Choose the best 3 (make sure that they work together)
- In Photoshop edit these photos (ex. adjust the colour, rotate, sharpen, etc)
- Export them to a new folder as psd files (also change resolution to 300)
- Open up the 3 photos in Photoshop. Adjust the sizes if you want (remember, they all need to be the same size and dpi - ex. 12"x8" 300 dpi). Also make sure that any strong lines still meet up.
- Create a new image that is the size of the final triptych and then drag the 3 images into the new image (as layers). To make it easier to identify, rename the layers with more appropriate names.
- Save the working copy of the triptych (title it "working image") as a psd file. This way you can save it multiple times and the image quality won't suffer.
- When finished, flatten the layers to make all 3 photos appear as 1 layer. Save with the title "finished triptych" as a jpeg file
Step 4: Oral Presentation
Complete the oral critique questions.
